Joy Restorative System

As we explore living RC, here are some of our stories…

Restorative Circle – Wed, Dec 5, 5-7pm at Joy Community
Act: Nahid joined AcroYoga class yesterday (Sun, Dec 2) in Arka. Sabine asked Nahid what her intention was for being there, and Nahid answered with, “What do you mean?” and proceeded to tell Sabine that L’aura manipulated her into stealing the money from the guests.” Sabine ran into Eric (WC) at Solar Kitchen and told him about Nahid’s presence, asking what to do in such a situation. Eric said something to the effect of, “Just tell her to leave, because she’s not allowed here.”

Jason, Facilitator
(sitting in the facilitator role, largest live circle yet, many from wider non-RC-community invited, hearing “yes” behind “no” during pre-circle, action plan and timing, living in a restorative system)

Jason cont…
(potential of this circle [beyond individual perspectives/pain and looking at this challenge as a larger community issue], central authority vs. reality of a voluntary community with no police, doing something different [ie. restorative, not punitive], a work in progress)

L’aura, Circle Initiator
(very real as “receiver” of act, potential of circle, authority making undoable threats, moving forward on a community level, many from larger non-RC-community invited but didn’t come, raising awareness about RC, needing to strengthen our system, wanting to include needs of absent author, a work in progress)

Shanti
(sharing our truth while sitting in a circle, supporting each other informally when conflict arises, RC as ancient wisdom, what to do when a person doesn’t take self-responsibility, conflict as normal part of life, RC growing into larger community)

Lorraine
(well represented group, safety for all points of view which can then lead to a restorative outcome, having to prove one’s innocence because of other person’s act, how to back up/enforce a “rule” made by community authority, needing clarity about role of circle participants in terms of talking and/or remaining silent)

Meenakshi
(moving through conflict with a concrete action plan)
